ARTIST STATEMENT The discovery of simple nuances in an object’s form allows for an intimate bond to be established between it and the beholder. It is these phenomenological associations that allow for an implied value, a value given to the object by the viewer. Often connections are made through use; use of an item allows for a connection to be made on an emotional level. As an artist whose primary focus is ceramics, I am enthralled by that which is earthy and unrefined; I am interested in the innate beauty of the organic form. As such, I delve into the natural and unprocessed aspect of ceramics. Working with a primarily wheel based process, I create both functional and sculptural forms which explore and express the various aspects of organic variables and forms. The emotional and psychological bonds which are established, because of both subtle and blatant distinctions, are the motivating factors behind my work.
